Objectives
- Developing innovative AI solutions to manage mobility in industrial areas.
- Defining a new theoretical framework for “Digital and Sustainable Twins” in the field of transport infrastructure.
Initial Challenge
The complexity of managing the transport system in industrial areas, and the risk conditions created by traffic and workers’ commuting to and from the workplace.
Solution
ROADSTER aims to investigate and develop new, state-of-the-art AI solutions in Computer Vision and Deep Learning to test a new “Digital and Sustainable Twin” framework for the complex ecosystem of roads and transport infrastructure in industrial areas. The proposal is highly innovative, as it shifts the focus from the classic “Smart City” setting to industrial production areas, which are highly critical for our region in terms of traffic intensity, pollution, and worker safety. The goal is to provide new data, processed both online and offline through new Italian services, covering:
- Road conditions and anomalies around industrial sites;
- Personalized services on traffic conditions to optimize transport scheduling;
- Improved safety for workers during their commutes to and from the workplace.
ROADSTER has two fundamental aspects: it aims to deliver valuable scientific results in AI, and it will serve as a proof-of-concept for a highly ambitious, widely scalable project to build an Italian response in mobility data management, dedicated to supporting industrial production and the ecological transition.
Benefits
- Production of new data, processed online and offline, on road conditions and anomalies around industrial sites.
- Potential to develop personalized services based on traffic conditions to optimize transport scheduling.
- Improved traffic conditions and easier transport planning.
- Improved safety for workers during their commutes to and from the workplace.
- Expansion of project activities thanks to built-in scalability.
- Integration and optimization of AI components to improve category recognition.
