AI and Smart Cities: CRIF’s challenge for IFAB 4 Next Generation Talents Participants

CRIF, a member company of the Foundation, has launched an exciting and highly relevant challenge for the participants of IFAB 4 Next Generation Talents. Like previous challenges, this opportunity allows students to apply their skills and knowledge to tackle real-world urban challenges using supercomputing technologies.  

The central theme of this challenge revolves around “AI Cities”—how can Artificial Intelligence contribute to the development of smart cities and improve the quality of life for citizens?  

CRIF Presents the seventh challenge of the program

Students are tasked with identifying innovative solutions that bridge the gap between the physical and digital worlds, with a specific focus on the needs of younger generations (Gen Z and Gen Y).  

More specifically, in designing a Smart City, participants will explore and develop the Digital Twin concept—virtual representations capable of describing, predicting, and simulating city behaviors. AI can be a crucial tool in enhancing urban livability and services.  

Challenge Requirements

To address this challenge, students must: 

  • Identify at least one innovative solution that integrates AI and/or georeferenced data, focusing on the needs of younger generations. Potential applications include: 
    • Student services 
    • Active participation in policy-making 
    • Job matching and mentoring 
    • Social networking and events 
    • Smart living solutions 
  • Develop a concept design of their solution in a PowerPoint presentation. 
  • If possible, accompany the presentation with an interactive mockup or proof of concept (POC), featuring elements such as: 
    • Dashboards 
    • Conversational interfaces 
    • Other interactive tools 
Impact and Benefits

This challenge provides young participants with the opportunity to shape the cities of the future, designed around the growing need for innovation and sustainability. Additionally, students will gain insights into the needs and expectations of their peers, applying them in a functional and impactful way to urban society.
