Artificial Intelligence and Big Data are reshaping the way businesses, institutions and society make decisions. In this context, it is strategic for Europe to train a new generation of professionals capable of interpreting and managing complexity through a data-driven approach, and able to seize the opportunities offered by digital transformation. It is within this framework that IFAB’s new commitment takes shape: over the next three years, the Foundation will take part in the European Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Applied Data Science (MADS) as an Associated Partner.
MADS is a high-level international educational programme developed within the strategic alliance of European universities “Una Europa”. The Master’s is led by Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), the University of Bologna (Italy), Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (France) and Leiden University (The Netherlands), in collaboration with University College Dublin (Ireland), Helsingin Yliopisto / Helsingfors universitet (Finland) and Uniwersytet Jagielloński w Krakowie (Poland), alongside a wider consortium of associated partners.
A project that strengthens IFAB’s mission
IFAB’s participation in the project represents a natural extension of its mission: to promote interdisciplinary research and support the development of advanced skills in Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and high-performance computing, with a constant focus on the common good. Through this collaboration, the Foundation will actively contribute to the development of the Master’s programme, taking part in its governance and supporting its ongoing evolution, with the aim of keeping it aligned with emerging needs in both the market and the research landscape.
Training, research and connection with industry
IFAB will be involved in shaping the Master’s programme and will contribute to its teaching activities through seminars, specialised lectures and participation in key training moments such as the Winter School. Alongside education, the Foundation will also bring its expertise in research and technology transfer, offering students concrete opportunities for growth, including internships, thesis projects and hands-on activities in real-world contexts, in close connection with its network of companies and partners.
